Consultation open on active travel orbital route for Mayo county town
MAYO County Council has announced the opening of a period of non-statutory consultation in respect of the Castlebar Orbital Connect Route.
This is the first major project to be progressed under the Local Transport Plan, and incorporates the following sections:
Section 1: R309 Westport Road
Section 2: Lannagh Road
Section 3: Humbert Way
Section 4: John Moore Road
Section 5: Pavilion Road
Section 6: Lawn Road
Section 7: Station Road and Ballinrobe Road
Section 8: Milebush Road
The Orbital Connect Route will form the backbone of Castlebar’s Active Travel Network, linking the main southern, western, and eastern approach roads directly to the town centre.
The project will deliver safer, more accessible walking and cycling connections to key destinations including the Mall, train station, Lough Lannagh, and major residential areas.
Designed as the primary active travel spine for Castlebar, it will strengthen day-to-day sustainable mobility, support healthy travel choices, and enhance connectivity across the town.
A public information event will be held on Thursday, March 26, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Lough Lannagh Leisure Centre, Castlebar. All are welcome to come and meet the team working on the project during that timeframe.
There will also be a public webinar held online on Thursday, March 12, from 7 to 8 p.m.
Submissions or observations with respect to the proposed development may be made until April 14.
