Mayo secondary school seeking support for All-Ireland schools final
THE senior footballers of Balla Secondary School are calling on the local community to get behind them ahead of their upcoming All-Ireland Post-Primary Schools Senior C Football Final.
The Balla boys will take on St. Ciaran’s College, Ballygawley, from Tyrone in the All-Ireland decider on Saturday week, March 14, and their preparations have already begun in earnest.
In order to try and offset some of the financial costs associated with getting ready for the biggest day in the school’s sporting history - for things like team transport, meals and match preparations - Balla Secondary School have set up a GoFundMe page.
“We’re incredibly proud of the unbelievable commitment and pride the lads have shown in representing their school, clubs and county this season,” said school principal Teresa Walsh.
“Now they have what could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to compete in an All-Ireland final.
“Of course, reaching an All-Ireland final is an incredible achievement but it also comes with significant costs,” she added.
“So we are raising funds to help cover team transport, meals and preparation costs, training equipment, match-day expenses and additional support costs for the squad.
“Every contribution, big or small, will directly support the players and ensure finances are not a barrier to them being the best they can be on the day.
“If we exceed our target, any additional funds will go towards future sports development within the school.
“So let’s get behind the lads and show them what community support looks like!”
