€80,200 allocated to Mayo agricultural shows

FUNDING support of €80,200 for agricultural shows in Mayo this year has been welcomed by Deputy Keira Keogh.

Funding has been confirmed for Ballina Show (€9,200), Ballinrobe Agricultural Show (€9,200), Bonniconlon Show (€10,700), Claremorris Agricultural Show (€9,200), Crossmolina Agricultural Show (€8,400), Erris Agricultural Show (€10,000), Louisburgh Horse & Pony Show (€6,700), Swinford Agricultural Show (€8,400) and Westport Horse & Pony Show (€8,400).

Deputy Keogh also congratulated the Bonniconlon Show committee who were honoured on Thursday evening at the Cathaoirleach’s Awards in Breaffy House Hotel, receiving the Cathaoirleach Award for Outstanding Contribution to Mayo Life.

Agricultural shows, she said, remain a cornerstone of rural Ireland, bringing together farming families, local businesses and communities while showcasing the very best of the agri-food sector.

“This funding recognises the enormous voluntary effort behind every show and will help committees meet rising costs while continuing to deliver safe, high-quality events for families and visitors,” she said.

Reflecting on the announcement, Deputy Keogh also paid tribute to the legacy of those who helped establish local shows.

“My own Grandad was among the founding members of the Westport Horse Show, and I am especially mindful of the recent passing of John Mayock, who also played a central role in its early years. Their contribution, and that of so many others, laid the foundations for events that continue to bring communities together today.”

Deputy Keogh said she looks forward to another strong season of shows across the county in the months ahead, noting their continued importance to rural life and local economies.
