Mayo Young Sports Stars: A showjumper going from strength to strength

The equestrian award in The Connaught Telegraph Mayo Young Sportstars Awards 2025 award goes to Knock showjumping sensation Lily Slattery.

This young rider is going from strength to strength judging by her exploits throughout 2025.

In her own age group – and above it too – she outclassed rivals all over the country, and once again qualified for the Dublin Horse Show last August, jumping on Captain Candyman, owned and bred by her grandad Gabriel Slattery, Irishtown, who trains Lily as well.

At 15 years of age, Lily was the youngest competitor in her category of young riders.

She will be recognised for her achievements at the gala ceremony in Breaffy House Resort, Castlebar, on Friday, March 13. Tickets for the event are now sold out.
