Mayo Young Sports Stars: Commitment and discipline result in great success
An outstanding young athlete whose commitment, discipline and excellence have seen her achieve success at both national and international level, Aoibhinn Monaghan has earned numerous national medals and made history within her club by becoming the first athlete to achieve a black belt since the it was re-established in 2018. That milestone speaks to her perseverance, focus, and long-term dedication.
It makes her a very worthy winner of the karate category in The Connaught Telegraph Mayo Young Sportstars Awards 2025.
On the world stage, Aoibhinn won a silver medal at the WSKF World Championships in Japan last October, competing against the highest calibre of international athletes.
This was her second world silver medal following her earlier achievement at the WKC World Championships in Serbia.
Driven, hardworking, and fiercely determined, Aoibhinn sets exceptionally high standards for herself and serves as a role model within her club and the wider sporting community.
Her accomplishments reflect not only natural talent, but a remarkable work ethic and passion for her sport.
She will collect her trophy at a gala ceremony to celebrate all the winners in The Connaught Telegraph Mayo Young Sportstars Awards 2025 in Breaffy House Resort, Castlebar, on Friday, March 13.
