Studies on crossing sought by students in Mayo school completed

THE students in Balla Secondary School are still waiting for the pedestrian crossing they first sought two years ago.

An update on the crossing, a right turning lane for the school, and a flashing speed sign across from College Woods was sought by Councillor Donna Sheridan at the monthly municipal district meeting.

It's been two years since the students wrote to the council about this, looking for something for their safety. If they'd written to Santa they'd have had a reply within two months, noted Councillor Michael Kilcoyne.

Director of services David Mellett said the right-hand turning lane has been ruled out due to safety concerns.

A feasibility and safety study on the crossing is going up to TII in the next few weeks. It will then go to detailed design following approval.
