Mayo Women's Masters League wraps up on a high note
The LPB Building Services Mayo Women's Masters League finished on a high tempo at Celtic Park on Saturday night.
Claremorris received their trophy as Premier Division winners, making it a cup and league double for them, with Ballyglass A runners-up. And Snugboro were presented with the Division 1 winners cup, with Ballyvary Blue Bombers runners-up.
Aaron and Brian Tansey of LPB Building Services Ltd were on hand at a night of celebration in Celtic clubhouse to make the presentations at the end of what has been a second very successful women's masters league.
Like at the cup final earlier in the week, there was a great atmosphere and good attendance for the final round of matches in the league, with high praise for Celtic for their hosting of the competition over the winter months.
Claremorris won the top division with 19 points, with Ballyglass A finishing second on 18. Ballyglass ended the season on a winning note against the champions, with Aoife Brennan and Cora Staunton scoring in a 2-0 win.
On the second pitch in this division, Castlebar Celtic and Westport United played out a 4-4 draw in a thrilling game.
Snugboro dropped no points on their way to winning Division 1, and second-placed Ballyvary made sure of their runners-up finishing position when seeing off Ballina Town 3-0, both having gone into the final game tied on 13 points apiece.
League chairperson Michael Collins extended thanks to everyone involved in the smooth running of the league, including sponsors LPB Building Services, league secretary Joe King, Joe McDonald and host venue Castlebar Celtic, and the referees, with special presentations made to referees Ann Sweeney and Catherine Fleming.
