Civic reception for three young Mayo sportspeople

THREE athletes from the Westport area are to be honoured with a civic reception.

They are tennis player Eoghan Jennings and running sensations Freya and Holly Renton.

At the monthly municipal district meeting, Councillor Peter Flynn proposed a civic reception to honour their achievements, saying tennis and track and field are not as traditional as other sports in the area and they have reached the international stage in their respective sports.

Eoin recently represented Ireland at the Junior Australian Open in Melbourne, while twins Holly and Freya's achievements at national and international level are 'off the charts'.

Freya won an Under 20 cross-country event in London recently, at the age of 15, with her sibling taking third spot.

Councillor Flynn paid tribute also to their parents and clubs for their role and commitment in their success.
