Proud distinction for Mayo transition year student

Peterina Grealis, a transition year student at St. Joseph's Secondary School, Castlebar, has been honoured with the TrailblazeHer Phoenix of the Year Award at TU Dublin, Grangegorman.

The TrailblazeHer initiative celebrates young women who demonstrate leadership, determination and the courage to pursue their ambitions.

Peterina was recognised for her outstanding commitment, resilience and determination to excel during a very difficult time in her life.

Congratulating her, a school spokesperson said: "Receiving the Phoenix of the Year Award is a fantastic achievement and reflects Peterina’s hard work, confidence and willingness to step forward and make a difference in school, at home and in the community.

"We are incredibly proud of Peterina, and this award is a well-deserved recognition of all that Peterina represents.

"She is a wonderful ambassador for our school and a great inspiration to other students."

Peterina, a daughter of Peter and Brenda Grealis, Turlough, Castlebar, is an accomplished musician and she was also a member of the school's team in the Junk Kouture regional finals at the Helix, Dublin, with their presentation, 'Fallen into Bloom'.
