The late Charlie Gallagher.

Death of Mayo 'Meter Man' Charlie Gallagher mourned

IN his work as 'the Meter Man', Charlie Gallagher was a familiar figure to many households.

Long before the smart meter was even thought of, Charlie was meticulous in his work recording meter readings for the ESB.

The Swinford man, who died yesterday, is being remembered in online tributes for his kind and friendly nature, a gentleman who enjoyed the chat as he did his rounds in an extensive district.

Charlie, who lived in Culmore, Swinford, died peacefully at Swinford District Hospital, surrounded by his beloved family.

He was predeceased by his parents Pat and Margaret Gallagher, brother Jimmy, and sister baby Marie.

He will be sadly and deeply missed by his loving wife Philomena, sons Charlie, Jimmy and Paddy, daughters Philomena and Loretta, son-in-law-Ronan, daughters-in-law Brigid, Stephaine, partners Julie and Anthony, his seven adored grandchildren Abby, Patrick, Finn, Maeve, Keira, Aoife and Jack, his dear brother Paddy, sisters Eileen McDonnell (Westport), Peggie Gallagher (Sligo), Teresa Cooney (Ballaghaderreen), Angela Jordon (Meelick), brother-in-law PJ Walsh (Bohola) and his extended and much loved family, neighbours and friends, to whom sympathy is extended on their loss.

Reposing is in Boland's Funeral Home, Swinford, this Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place on Monday at 12 noon in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Swinford, followed by burial in Kilconduff Cemetery, Swinford.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.
