Demolition of four Mayo urban derelict properties to start next week

Edmund Lavin Services Limited have been appointed by Mayo County Council to carry out demolition and enabling works at properties 3 to 6 Ellison Street, Castlebar.

Works are expected to commence on Wednesday next, March 18, and will continue for approximately 12 to 14 weeks.

For safety reasons, the footpath and parking bays directly outside the buildings will be temporarily closed for the duration of the demolition works.

The site will be fully secured with hoarding, with measures in place to ensure the safety of the public and neighbouring properties.

The move represents the first step in the construction of 13 new social housing apartments at the location.

Councillor Harry Barrett has welcomed the news.
