Death of 'gentleman' Martin Lydon is mourned in Mayo
The death of Martin Lydon, Fortfield, Castlebar, and late of Derrypark, Tourmakeady, has evoked a tremendous sense of loss.
He died peacefully in the wonderful care of the staff in AbbeyBreaffy Nursing Home, Castlebar, surrounded by his loving family.
A warm and affable personality, he had a long association with Castlebar Mitchels and Castlebar Athletics Club.
A tribute on social media described him as 'a gentleman in every sense of that word'.
Another tribute said he will be fondly remembered for the impact he made and the lives he touched.'
"A lovely person," a further tribute stated.
He is deeply regretted by his heartbroken wife Theresa, sons Martin, Kevin and Sean, daughters Mary (Regan) and Helen (Nevin), brother Pete (Tourmakeady), sisters Sarah (Lydon, NYC) and Ann (Lydon, London), daughters-in-law Audrey, Vanessa and Fiona, sons-in-law Mike (Regan) and Mike (Nevin), grandchildren Sarah, James, Maeve, Claire, Kate and Dáithí, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends, to whom sympathy is tendered.
Martin was predeceased by his son Noel Patrick, parents Martin and Mary, brothers and sisters.
Martin will repose in Coady’s Funeral home, Castlebar, on Thursday from 5.30 p.m. with removal at 7 p.m. to his residence.
Removal from his residence on Friday at 10.15 a.m for Requiem Mass at 11.30 a.m. in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar.
Martin will be laid to rest afterwards in the New Cemetery, Castlebar.
