New-look street gives Mayo town a timely boost

A MULTI-million-euro investment has transformed the face of one of Mayo county town's oldest streets.

Works are substantially completed on a new commercial and housing project at Knockthomas, Turlough Road, Castlebar, giving the location an ultra modern look.

In a week in which a start is being made on demolishing four eyesore derelict buildings at Ellison Street, the investment by developer Albert Dravins is helping to build confidence in the local economy at the opposite end of the town centre.

The new project consists of a 218 square metre yoga studio and a coffee shop, the latter of which will officially open on Friday, March 27, and trade under the name Early Birds.

The outlet will be operated by Kate Walsh, a daughter of Albert and Siobhan Dravins, Breaffy.

The project includes a number of three-storey and two-storey housing units, car parking and landscaping, some minor works on which remain to be completed.

A derelict house and an outbuilding were demolished on the site ahead of construction work.

The transformative impact of the new buildings has attracted much favourable comment from local people, delighted with the eye-catching streetscape that has been created.
