Oil theft alert is issued for Mayo after overnight incident

An alert has been issued after home heating oil was stolen from a tank in a Westport housing estate last Sunday night.

The incident has been reported to An Garda Siochana.

Local Councillor Brendan Mulroy said the theft has greatly angered and disappointed local people.

He advised member of the public to ensure their oil tanks are secured.

He also called on members of the public who spot any suspicious activity to report it immediately to An Garda Siochána.

The price of a fill of home heating oil has risen substantially in recent weeks due to the impact of the Middle East crisis.
