Golden Mayo brass moment as bands play special recital for legendary Jackie Graham

A golden moment occurred in the aftermath of the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Ballina yesterday when Castlebar Concert Band and the Foxford Brass and Reel Band came together to perform two great marches - The Villager and Slaidburn - as a special tribute to legendary Mayo brass band figure Jackie Graham.

The recital, which took place at Marjet Square, was in recognition of his loyal and outstanding services to both bands over many years.

Jackie was a former musical director of Castlebar Concert Band and also played with Foxford Brass and Reel Band.

A highly accomplished musician and multi-instrumentalist, he was a leading member of the former Ballina Brass Band and still performs with the Band of Brass, which is based in the north Mayo town.

Jackie, accompanied by family members, was delighted to meet up with so many of his brass band friends in the aftermath of the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Ballina.

Members of both bands were privileged to host such an event in his honour and were particularly delighted that it gave him such joy and happiness.
