Local man raises over €9,000 for charities in Mayo event

Andrew Connaire and a group of friends recently completed the Westport Sea2Summit, a challenging run, cycle and hike event that takes participants through the stunning Mayo countryside before finishing with a climb up and down Croagh Patrick. Through their efforts, the group raised more than €9,000 for Cancer Care West and the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA).

Andrew’s achievement is particularly inspiring as he took on the challenge less than a year after beginning his recovery from oesophageal cancer treatment. Reflecting on the experience, Andrew credited the incredible support of his friends and his wife Maggie for helping him reach the finish line.

The fundraising effort was also inspired by the recent diagnosis of a close friend with Motor Neurone Disease, whose family and friends played an important role in supporting and contributing to the fundraising effort.

During his cancer journey Andrew availed of services provided by Cancer Care West and says the support he received played a significant role in his recovery.

Speaking at the cheque presentation, he said he wanted to give something back to organisations that support people and families facing serious illness.

Representatives from Cancer Care West and IMNDA expressed their sincere thanks to Andrew and everyone involved for their generosity and determination, noting that funds raised will help continue providing vital support services to patients and their families across the west of Ireland.
