Solution proposed for north Mayo R315 gritting crux
THE lack of gritting on the R315 between Crossmolina and Ballycastle remains firmly on the agenda of local Councillor Michael Loftus.
He has proposed a solution to the crux: the council needs to invest in a bigger gritting truck.
A small vehicle, he said, treats the road from Ballina out to the Ceide Fields and then turns around and drives back to Ballina empty.
There is no reason why a larger vehicle couldn't go out to the Ceide Fields and then turn right up the R315 and grit it as well.
“If there was a larger vehicle on the route it would solve the problem,” he told the monthly local authority meeting in Castlebar.
When the winter plan is being prepared, he asked that this be considered by Mayo County Council.
