Free online post-cancer programme for Mayo people

Local registered charity Mayo Cancer Support Association is delivering the much-respected Cancer Thriving & Surviving programme for the first time over six weeks this spring.

Delivered in association with the National Cancer Control Programme, Cancer Thriving & Surviving is a six-week, peer-led, self-management workshop developed by Stanford University for cancer survivors and those with long-term maintenance needs.

It focuses on enhancing quality of life through skills for managing your health and emotional wellbeing as you progress onwards from treatment.

The programme is geared at individuals who have finished cancer treatment (survivors who are three+ months post-treatment) or are living with long-term, advanced cancer. It is free of charge to participants and will be delivered online by Mayo Cancer Support Association every Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. from next week (Tuesday, March 24) until May 7.

The core topics covered include: physical health (managing fatigue, pain, sleep issues, and improving nutrition); emotional wellbeing (dealing with fear of recurrence, anxiety and frustration); practical skills (action-planning, decision-making, and communication with health professionals); lifestyle (rebuilding physical stamina and exercising safely); support and community (find a space to build relationships, share successes, and live well with or beyond a diagnosis).

The classes are interactive and participation is subject to eligibility criteria. Numbers are limited for this online programme so book online now via https://eventmaster.ie/event/8jbJs7qTV1. Alternatively, contact Mayo Cancer Support Association anytime between 9.30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday to Friday on (094) 9038407 or info@mayocancersupport.ie for more information or to have your name added to the expression of interest list.
