Mayo people invited to enter national water photography competition

The Local Authority Waters Programme (LAWPRO) is calling on people in Mayo to enter this year's My Favourite Waterbody photography competition, which opened for entries on Sunday, March 22 — World Water Day.

The national competition celebrates Ireland's rivers, streams, lakes and coastal waters, and LAWPRO is encouraging Mayo residents to capture and share the natural waterbodies on their doorstep.

Anthony Coleman, Director of Services at LAWPRO, said the launch date was fitting. "World Water Day on Sunday 22nd March is a day that marks the importance of fresh water and the sustainable management of water resources. It is a perfect day to launch our annual national photo competition."

Coleman added that the competition was an opportunity for people to connect with their local environment. "Our natural waters are places to explore, enjoy, and connect with and LAWPRO's photo competition is a great way for people to share their appreciation of the waterbodies that sustain and surround us."

The overall winner will receive a €550 voucher for a stay at Sheen Falls Lodge in Kenmare, Co. Kerry, along with an A3 framed print of their photo. Three runners-up will also receive framed prints, and a selection of entries will feature in LAWPRO's 2027 calendar.

The competition is open to anyone across Ireland. Those under 18 must have their entry submitted by a parent or guardian. The closing date is 5 p.m. on Friday, May 22.
