Mayo students showcase youth-led social innovation

SOME 195 students from across Leitrim, Clare, Mayo, Donegal, Cavan, Sligo and Roscommon presented projects addressing key social and environmental issues affecting their communities at the YSI Speak Out Tour 2026 in Sligo.

Students explored elderly loneliness and the importance of intergenerational connection, alongside projects focused on biodiversity protection and environmental sustainability. Teams also celebrated and examined the role of local heritage in strengthening community identity and pride.

Through their presentations, students demonstrated empathy, creativity, and a deep commitment to protecting both people and place.

The event formed part of the national Young Social Innovators (YSI) Speak Out Tour, which empowers young people to speak confidently about the changes they want to see and the actions they are taking to create impact.
