Magnificent Mayo secure camogie crown with victory over Monaghan

Mayo defeated Monaghan by double scores – 2-12 to 1-6 – to secure the Centra Camogie League Division 3B title in Longford on Saturday afternoon.

The Green and Red were in a commanding 1-10 to 0-1 lead at the break having played with the aid of the wind in the first half.

The final, played in the Mostrim GAA grounds outside Edgeworthstown, was more even after the change of ends but Mayo had done enough in that first half to secure the win.

Mayo's first-half goal was scored by Méabh Tunney on 10 minutes, while Lisa Scahill scored five points and Ava Dooley landed three as the westerners built up a big advantage before the break.

Scahill added Mayo's second goal in the 53rd minute and while they only added two more points after the break, they were always able to stay well ahead of the Farney County, whose goal was kicked in by Kiera McLaughlin in injury time.

The second half was more evenly contested but short on scores, which suited Mayo down to the ground with that big lead established.
