Mayo town earmarked for specialised rail skills academy
A planning application is being lodged to Mayo County Council for a specialised rail skills academy at Thomas Street in Kiltimagh.
Behind the proposal is Mayo and Dublin-based firm, ProRail Services (Ireland) Limited.
The facility will include training rooms, overhead line electrification facility, industrial rope access training centre and a confined space training centre.
Provision is also being made for meeting rooms, tool storage and administration offices.
ProRail Services (Ireland) Limited is a railway infrastructure consultancy and contracting company established in July 2022.
It specialises in rail civil engineering, safety-critical labor supply, and consultancy with a focus on Irish Rail projects.
With locations in Dublin and Mayo, they provide skilled staff such as surveyors and manage large-scale rail engineering projects across Ireland and the UK.
The firm already has offices in place at the Cairn International Trade Centre in Kiltimagh.
A facility of the nature proposed would represent a major boost for the east Mayo area.
