Judge gives Mayo man final chance to engage with services over drug charges
A Westport man has been given a final opportunity to engage with probation services at Castlebar District Court.
Jack Devoy, 25, with an address at The Quay, Westport, appeared before the court having failed to engage with probation services on four previous occasions.
He is before the courts on drug possession charges dating back to incidents on July 9, 2024, and November 11, 2025.
The court heard he is the father of a young child and is currently in a stable relationship.
Devoy said he had been in a bad place mentally but now wished to engage with supports, including Cuan Mhuire.
Defence solicitor Tom Walsh said efforts were now being made, though Judge Vincent Deane expressed concern at the late stage of engagement.
Judge Deane warned that “talk is cheap” and said he wanted to see concrete results rather than arrangements.
Adjourning the matter to June 18 for a probation report, he told the defendant: “It’s in your hands now.”
