Mayo man to engage with probation services following theft and public order incidents

A Castlebar man is to engage with probation services following theft and public order incidents heard at Castlebar District Court.

Jason Healy, of Chamber Court, Cavendish Lane, Castlebar, elected to have his case dealt with in the District Court.

Sergeant John O’Reilly told the court that on October 19, 2025, the defendant entered Aldi, Knockacroghery, Castlebar, and took a bottle of gin valued at €34.99, leaving the store without paying.

The court also heard that later that day, gardaí attended at Chamber Court, Cavendish Lane, where the defendant became aggressive after members knocked on doors and windows for a welfare check.

He was subsequently arrested and conveyed to Castlebar Garda Station.

It was noted that the defendant has two previous convictions for possession of drugs.

Ms. Kathleen Henry, BL, defending, said her client wished to apologise unreservedly to the court and to the injured parties.

She outlined that Healy had been going through a very difficult time and had taken drugs, leaving him in a distressed state.

Ms. Henry said her client is now in a more stable position, is grateful to gardaí for their intervention and believes their actions may have turned his life around.

He added that Healy is anxious to engage with probation services and does not wish to come before the courts again.

Judge Vincent Deane directed that the defendant engage with probation services in relation to the theft charge, with other matters taken into consideration.
