Gallows Hill, heading out the Rathbawn Road, sees frequent traffic hold-ups.

Answers needed on traffic survey at pinch-point in Mayo county town

WHAT is the update on the traffic survey for the Rathbawn Road in Castlebar, Councillor Harry Barrett wants to know.

As he walks to work in the morning, he turns up right and has motorists looking at him, with hands out in wonder.

“What’s happening with the traffic survey,” he asked council management at the monthly municipal district meeting.

“They’re giving me gestures in the morning - ‘You’re the sitting councillor, what are you doing about the traffic survey’, and I have no answers.”

It’s one of the most pressing issues in the town, he said.

The Rathbawn Road sees serious traffic delays in the morning and evening and councillors have been pushing for action to bring relief.
