Mayo Women's League set for 2026 season launch

THE Mayo Women's League 2026 season will be officially launched at Breaffy House Hotel on Wednesday evening, April 1, at 7 p.m.

The year is off to a positive start with four new teams playing in the senior ranks.

Ballyvary Blue Bombers and Snugboro United are making their debuts at this grade, while Ballinrobe Town return, after not having a team in 2025, as do Castlebar Celtic, who have been absent for a number of years now.

Eco Powered Cabinets also return as sponsors, and the league has welcomed the extension of their partnership in promoting the women's game in Mayo while also offering a platform for this innovative award-winning, life-saving device manufacturers.

League of Ireland director and former sports minister Michael Ring, a long-standing supporter of women's football in the county, will be on hand for the launch, where the various cup draws will also take place.

The evening is also a chance for the football community to applaud new league president Tommy Rumley on his first official outing since his election at the annual general meeting.

The league is kicking off on Friday, April 10, though some teams won't see action for another week with Mayo taking part in the Angela Hearst Inter-League Cup on April 12.

The breakdown of the divisions is below, with Kilmore moving up to the Premier after winning Division One last year, while Ballina Town also step up after being Division Two champions.

Interest in women's football certainly has been boosted by the success of the masters league, and a blend of players coming up through the underage structures combining with more seasoned players as clubs field teams, with Ballyvary and Snugboro hoping to build on their positive work in both.
