Woman found drunk and asleep on footpath in Mayo town placed on probation
A woman found drunk and asleep on a busy Ballina street became abusive to gardaí when awoken.
Veronia Cowley, aged 39, of Moy Vale Lawn, Quignalecka, Ballina, appeared before Ballina District Court.
On November 12, 2025, it was reported to gardaí that a woman was asleep on the footpath close to the road at Clare Street in Ballina.
Cowley was highly intoxicated and when gardaí roused the woman she became abusive.
Solicitor Mr. Peter Loftus said his client has a history of alcohol problems.
Cowley has five previous convictions.
Judge Vincent Deane placed the woman on a probation bond for a year.
“I hope you take advantage of this,” the judge remarked.
