Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Planning ahead for any future Mayo visit by Prime Minister

A Westport area councillor is thinking ahead for a possible visit by the Canadian Prime Minister, Mark Carney, to his ancestral home.

Mr. Carney's family came from Aughagower and an invitation home was reiterated to him during St. Patrick's Day celebrations with Minister Dara Calleary and Mayo delegates in Canada.

But, before any visit takes place, the road to the old Carney family home needs repairing, Councillor Johnny O'Malley told a municipal district meeting.

It's in a dire state of repair and you couldn't bring the PM up it, he said.

The road in question is a dead end.

Councillor O'Malley wondered if there is emergency funding available for such an event.

He was told that when confirmation of a visit is received, any issues will be addressed and the situation can be reviewed.
