New site needed for bus depot in Mayo county town

THE urgent need for a new bus depot in Castlebar has again been raised by Councillor Harry Barrett.

The current location at Stephen Garvey Way is an accident waiting to happen, he has warned.

Speaking at a municipal district meeting, Councillor Barrett urged the council to identify a site for a proper bus depot.

Also on buses, Councillor Donna Sheridan has again highlighted the need for a bus stop and pedestrian crossing to service the primary care centre in Moneen.

Senior engineer Pat McHale agreed that the current site at Stephen Garvey Way is a little bit curtailed.

He also noted that there is a new bus facility at the nearby hospital which is probably underutilised.
