"No more delays" - €6.1m. Mayo to Galway R332 upgrade underway, says Dillon
Minister of State Alan Dillon TD has welcomed major progress on the R332, as works now move ahead in both Mayo and Galway as part of a €6.1 million investment.
Contracts have now been awarded to Harrington Concrete & Quarries for the Mayo section, while Jons Civil Engineering are delivering the Galway works, a clear sign of boots on the ground and real delivery.
“We all know Mayo and Galway can go at it hammer and tongs on the pitch,” Dillon said
“But when it comes to delivering for our communities, we’re shoulder to shoulder and this project proves it.”
The upgrade between Kilmaine and Tuam will deliver safer roads, better connectivity and real relief for daily commuters.
“Anyone using this road knows the story tight bends, poor visibility, and too many near misses. It’s been frustrating, and it’s been dangerous. That changes now.”
With traffic volumes soaring, the project is critical for families, workers and local businesses across South Mayo.
“This isn’t just about tarmac, it’s about people getting home safe, getting to work quicker, and taking the headache out of the daily commute. That’s what matters to people.”
Construction is now underway on both sides of the county boundary, with completion targeted for 2026.
“This is a massive boost for commuters across south and west Mayo and the wider region.
"Different jerseys, same direction, delivering a modern, safer road network that supports our communities and local economy.”
“I’ve kept this project moving at every stage, and I’ll be staying on it to make sure it’s delivered on time and to the standard people deserve.
No slipping, no delays, just getting this done.”
