Councillors support planned Mayo investment by McDonalds

PLANS for McDonalds to open a new outlet in Claremorris have received the full backing of area councillors.

The fast food chain's application for a new restaurant and drive thru on lands adjoining the Silverbridge Plaza and Shopping Centre on the Knock Road was raised at the monthly municipal district meeting.

Local Councillor Richard Finn asked management to ensure all the positive aspects of the development are put forward to the planners, and to impress the importance of a brand name of this kind.

McDonalds only have one other outlet in Mayo - in Castlebar, and this international name wants to invest in Claremorris.

He proposed that they all support the idea of McDonalds getting all the assistance possible to locate in the town, a proposal seconded by Councillor Patsy O'Brien and one that received unanimous support.

Mayo County Council's planning department has requested further information from the developers about their application for planning permission.
