Mayo man before court on trespass and theft charges

A BALLINROBE man has been remanded to appear before Castlebar District Court on May 20 after electing to have his case heard in the district court.

Alan Maher, Railway Inn, Kilmaine Road, Ballinrobe, faces a charge under Section 12 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act arising from an incident on February 21, 2025.

Sergeant Conor McShane told the court that at approximately 4 p.m. on that date, Maher is alleged to have entered a room at the Railway Inn which was being used as accommodation provided by Mayo County Council for another resident.

A Tommy Hilfiger watch valued at €400, bank cards, a prison card, a North Face jacket valued at €180, a kettle, a wallet and hair gel and perfume were taken.

Maher was identified on CCTV in connection with the alleged theft.

The matter was adjourned to May 20.
