Motorist caught speeding at 138km/h in 80km zone in Mayo
An Garda Síochána conducted an extensive Roads Policing Operation, that was in place from 7 a.m. on Thursday, April 2 last, until 7 a.m. this morning Tuesday April 7, to ensure road safety during the Easter bank holiday weekend.
During this period, there were three fatalities on our roads, and five serious injury collisions.
In excess of 175 drivers were detected for intoxicated driving and in excess of 1,000 drivers were detected for speeding during the operation.
Notable speeds detected over the operation included 138km/h in a 80km/h zone on the N60, Manulla, and 103km/h in a 50km/h zone on the Malahide Road, Donnycarney, Dublin 3.
Fixed Charge Notices issued for other road offences during this period included: using mobile phones – in excess of 290; no seatbelts – over 95.
An Garda Síochána continues to appeal to all road users to never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, to slow down and to always choose a speed that is appropriate to the driving conditions, to wear your seatbelt and keep your eyes always on the road.
