Local support for Mayo community centre redevelopment

A MAJOR community centre redevelopment in Ballina has received the thumbs up from planners and local residents.

The project involves the demolition of the existing Sean Duffy Community Centre and construction of a new community centre and sports facility ancillary to Ardnaree Sarsfields sport pitch.

A new carpark is also proposed at the site at Healy Terrace in Abbeyhalfquarter, Ballina.

The local community has voiced its support for the development.

Five third party submissions were recorded on the planning file, including a submission from Ardnaree Residents Association, and all were in support of the proposal.

The proposed facilities were welcomed as an asset to the local community and integral community facility.

The council found that, subject to conditions, the development would not be injurious to the residential, visual or general amenity of the area, would not represent a significant public health issue or traffic hazard, and would be an appropriate form of development.
