Popular Mayo golf society tees off for new season

THE 2026 Tolster's Golf Society season teed off with a fun 11-hole scramble at Castlebar Golf Club.

The forecast looked good all week but unfortunately it didn’t turn out that way as golfers were met with windy and rainy conditions on the day. Despite the poor weather conditions, there was a fantastic turnout from both members and visitors to start the 2026 season with a bang.

Castlebar Golf Club was in pristine condition as always and stood firm in the poor weather conditions. In what was a difficult day for good scoring, the quality of golf from all players was superb.

In a tightly fought battle for prizes, the winners on the day was the team of Des McGowan, John Coyne and Frank McHale. In second place was the team of Paul Harte, Gerry Walsh and Sean Mangan, and finally, Finian Joyce, Ian Smyth and Tom Cresham finished third.

Thanks to Castlebar Golf Club for their tremendous hospitality as ever on the day.

The next outing of the season is at Ballinrobe Golf Club on April 23.
