New exhibition explores Mayo landscape through lens of George Moore's writing
A SPECIAL exhibition exploring the Mayo landscape, past and present, through the lens of the writings of George Moore and environs of Moore Hall is opening next month.
Landscape & Memory - The Moores of Moore Hall will open at Westport Town Hall on May 7.
The theme of the exhibition, 'Landscape & Memory', coincides with the 13th International George Moore Conference taking place in the Atlantic Technological University (ATU), Castlebar, from May 5 to 7. The conference has been organised by ATU in conjunction with the George Moore Association.
This group exhibition is a collaborative project between the West Ink Society of Artist-Printmakers and The Wright Artists. It explores elements of the Mayo landscape, past and present, through the lens of George Moore’s writings and the surrounding environs of Moore Hall.
West Ink and The Wright Artists are artist-led collectives based in Westport, with a strong commitment to professional practice and collaboration. They have overlapping membership, with several artists active in both groups, strengthening connections between printmaking and broader visual art practices locally.
Both place high value on peer support, exhibition opportunities, and engagement with local audiences, contributing to Westport’s reputation as a centre for visual arts in the west of Ireland.
The exhibiting artists are Breda Burns, Mags Duffy, Michelle Healy, Áine Gallagher, Betty Gannon, Michael Gannon, Pamela Gray, V. R.
