NTA and Mayo Sports Partnership launch Bike Week 2026
The National Transport Authority (NTA) and Mayo Sports Partnership have announced details of Bike Week 2026, which runs from Saturday, May 9 to Sunday, May 17.
Some of the events taking place in Mayo include: relaxed family cycle; hands-on bike maintenance workshops; inclusive learn to cycle sessions designed especially for children with disabilities; lunchtime school cycles.
All Bike Week events are grassroots efforts, organised with commitment and enthusiasm by local community groups and clubs, Mayo Sports Partnership and the Bike Week Steering Committee. Support also comes from Mayo County Council Road Safety and Smarter Travel Offices, An Taisce Green Schools, An Garda Síochána, community councils, and cycling groups right across Mayo.
This year’s flagship event will see the Fireride Pop Up Cycling Activation take place in the Mall, Castlebar, on May 13. This consists of a specially designed skills course for all ages and abilities to help participants improve their cycling confidence and ability, as well as having fun and feeling inspired thanks to the professional rider coaches.
Kieran Reilly, Outdoor Recreation Officer with Mayo Sports Partnership, encourages people of all ages and abilities to get involved:
“Bike Week continues to be a fantastic opportunity to see schools, communities and families across Mayo get involved in cycling. This worthwhile campaign has been in operation since 2010 and continues to grow each year. We hope Bike Week 2026 encourages even more people to get out, enjoy their local areas and experience the many benefits of cycling.”
