Plans for Mayo sports campus project due before councillors after summer

A PART 8 planning application for the proposed sports campus, which includes pitches and running track at Knockaphunta, Castlebar, is set to come before local councillors after the summer.

At the May municipal district meeting, council management was queried on where the project is at.

An issue about parking at the site not being adequate had been raised with Councillor Michael Kilcoyne, who also wondered when the Part 8 will be advertised.

Director of services David Mellett said it looks like the project will proceed through the Part 8 process.

Parking for the project, he said, was sufficient. It is linked with the Lough Lannagh complex, and the active travel proposal is linked with that. There were in the region of 50 to 70 spaces.

Asked when the Part 8 would come before councillors, Mr. Mellett said it would be after the summer.
