Council payments to Mayo voluntary groups 'to be paid on a phased basis'

The Castlebar Municipal District general municipal allocation for 2020 is €490,000, it has been confirmed.

Councillor Michael Kilcoyne, chairman, said agreement has been reached to make payments on a phased basis.

The following allocations have been recommended by the elected members.

Councillors' allocation €266,000, graveyards €28,000, Linenhall Arts Centre €48,000, Ballintubber car park €24,000, Horror in the Barracks €5,000, Castlebar Chamber of Commerce Christmas Event €13,500, Twinning €15,000, Promotion of Castlebar €20,000, St. Patrick's Day Parade €500, Castlebar Four Days Walks €2,000, Social Services €6,500, Visit Castlebar €13,500, Mayo Choral Festival €2,000, Killawalla village €9,500, Bofeenaun playground €10,000 and Castlebar Christmas lights €26,500.

The allocations are due to be approved at a meeting of the district on Wednesday.

Payments will be delayed for a number of months until the council's financial position becomes clearer.

They will be paid on a phased basis, Councillor Kilcoyne explained.
