Debut EP from Mayo native Tríona Sings

Singer songwriter Tríona Sings has launched her debut EP this week. Now based in Dublin but a native of Erris, Tríona (Ní Dhuibhir) has been working on the five-track EP with Rob Kilpatrick of Tinpot Productions over the last year, and is delighted to bring the project to fruition.

Opening song 'Ruby My Beauty' was written for her first daughter, Ruby, and touches upon the joy and turmoil, the ups and downs gifted by first-born children.

The chaos and wonder of children can be a catalyst to greater awareness, said Tríona, and the opening song paves the way for the gentle journey into 'Flow With The Wind', which is an invitation to take it easy and to flow.

'The Void' brings listeners to the depths of grief, frustration and despair. This is a vulnerable moment and the midpoint of the EP.

Next, 'Light In The Pattern' moves to contemplate the source of human discontent. Is it caused by internal or external circumstance? During this song the focus turns from inward to outward, and the EP closes with 'Narnia', which is a song of hope and light.

Delighted

Tríona performed the five-song EP collection 'live' with producer Robert Kilpatrick at First Fortnight’s Cistin in January last in a line-up with Alma Kelliher (Lux Alma), Sinéad White and Gary Tiernan.

Following its premiere to a ticketed audience, Cistin was released to the public by First Fortnight, in partnership with St. Patrick’s Mental Health Services, on YouTube in March. Now, Tríona is absolutely delighted to finally bring the five songs of Tríona Sings to listeners.

She began writing her own music in 2013 and has since performed her songs at Young Heart’s Run Free in a line-up with Donal Lunny, at the Workman’s Club, the Back Page and with Mothers Artists Makers (MAM) at Árus an Phiarsaigh for Nollag na mBan, The MAM Behind the Mic at Smock Alley Theatre and at Project Arts Centre for International Women’s Day. She is an organiser and performer at MAM salons, where artists share new work in a supportive environment.

Tríona, who holds a first-class honours MA from the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, performed her own one-woman shows at Dublin Fringe Festival, Bewleys Café Theatre and at The Performance Corporation’s Big House Festival.

She played in traditional, folk and choral contexts for many years, performing solo numbers with Cantóirí Choir at The Village, Whelan's, The Helix and at Dublin Fringe Festival’s Spiegeltent. She sang in the citizens’ chorus of The Suppliant Women, which opened Dublin Theatre Festival (2017) at the Gaiety Theatre.
