Westport energy master plan launched

A NEW energy master plan outlines a path for Westport to reduce its energy consumption across a variety of areas, including the residential, commercial and transport sectors.

A launch event took place in Westport Town Hall Theatre last evening (Thursday) to mark the publication of the energy master plan for the town.

A presentation about the plan was given by energy consultant Ray McNally of Plan Energy, who was commissioned to create the plan by West SEC, Westport’s Sustainable Energy Community, with funding provided by the SEAI and supported by Westport Credit Union.

A number of sustainable energy professionals and providers showcased their products and services, including home insulation specialists, solar panel installers, electric bike retailers and electric car sellers.

Members of the public came along discussing energy bills and availed off in-person consultations with energy consultants about various options for saving energy in their homes.

Westport Credit Union was also able to provide information for people who wanted to learn more about their Green loans for energy retrofits and electric vehicles.

“We’ve all become acutely aware recently of how much energy we use and how much that costs,” said Feena Kirrkamm of West SEC. “This event gave people an opportunity to assess their options for reducing their energy and how that can be done as part of a community-wide effort.”
