Three senior Mayo gardaí are promoted

PROMOTION have been officially announced for three high ranking gardai in Mayo.

Sergeant Denis Harrington (Westport), Detective Sergeant Gary Walsh (Castlebar) and Sergeant Dermot Butler (Belmullet) are all to be promoted shortly to the rank of inspector.

All three are extremely proficient and experienced members of the force.

It's not yet clear where the three new appointees will be based.

Appointments to the ranks of sergeant and inspector are a matter for the Garda Commissioner under section 14 of Garda Síochána Act 2005.

However, appointments to the rank of superintendent and chief superintendent continue to be a function of government.
