New Aldi store creates 20 new jobs in south Mayo

Aldi has increased its presence in Mayo with the opening of its latest “Project Fresh” store in Ballinrobe.

A total of 20 new jobs have been created at the new store.

Featuring Aldi’s exciting award-winning Project Fresh layout and design, the new store boasts a large shop floor spanning 987m², 71 free car parking spaces, wide aisles and hi-spec fixtures and fittings.

Bringing great quality fresh Irish products and fantastic value to customers, the new Ballinrobe store is Aldi’s third store in Mayo. Aldi now has a total of 133 stores in Ireland.

Aldi’s Castlebar and Claremorris stores are deeply involved with their local communities, donating surplus food daily to local charitable organisations as part of Aldi’s partnership with FoodCloud.

Aldi’s Mayo stores have donated almost 11,000 meals to charity through FoodCloud, saving charities close to €15,000.

The new store is part of Aldi’s €160 million investment in its Irish store network. Aldi has committed €100 million to constructing and opening 20 new stores by the end of 2019, while Project Fresh sees Aldi invest a further €60 million in revamping the layout and design of all its 133 stores nationwide.

Speaking at the store opening, Lisa Gorham, Store Manager of Aldi’s new Ballinrobe store said, “We are delighted to open our new Ballinrobe store and look forward to welcoming many new customers from the local area. The Project Fresh design is much more spacious than a typical Aldi store and we are confident that our customers will find it provides a more enjoyable shopping experience.

“Our commitment to our customers is we will never be beaten on price and will always provide the best value. Families can make huge savings on their weekly shopping bill by shopping at our stores.”

According to the most recent survey of fresh meat in Irish supermarkets, Aldi sells the highest proportion of fresh Irish meat labelled with the Bord Bia Quality Assurance Mark.

Bord Bia’s Retail Audit on the Bord Bia Quality Assurance Mark found that 85% of Aldi’s fresh meat range displayed the Quality Assurance Mark, giving Aldi the highest ranking of the nine supermarkets and convenience store chains surveyed.

Aldi is committed to growing its Irish supply base and increasing the number of Irish products available in its stores. Last year Aldi spent over €700 million with Irish producers, manufacturers and suppliers.

Aldi also recently increased its support for small Irish suppliers by reducing its payment terms to 14 days for suppliers that transact up to €300k annually with Aldi.
