Seafood processing companies to merge

DUBLIN-based HJ Nolan Ltd. will merge with Mayo-based Carr & Son Seafood Ltd., effective from March 2019.

The merger will unite the strongest seafood company in Ireland with the craftsmanship of the western processing company.

With much in common the amalgamation will successfully keep customers at the leading edge of fish processing through innovation and quality. The businesses will complement each other in terms of product range and market coverage, establishing the strongest seafood business in the Irish seafood sector.

The Grade 'A' BRC Accreditation facility on the Wild Atlantic Way will be supported by a sales office located in Dublin and will be well positioned to navigate into the future.

Mutually determined to enthusiastically seize opportunities and face uncertainties, the companies also intend to maintain their commitment to environmentally friendly business practices.

Nolans Quality Seafood Ltd. was founded in 1912. Nolans today is still very much a family affair with George Nolan, the grandson of founder Harry James, as chairman. This family continuity has ensured that Nolans has developed over the years into an experienced and professional company with a team focused on ensuring consistency of product.

Nolans produce a selection of the finest quality smoked and fresh fish products for the domestic and worldwide market.

Carr & Sons Seafood Ltd. was originally established in 1946 and the Mondi Group AB have continued the tradition of the previous owners to produce and distribute a range of chilled pre-packed smoked, fresh and ready to eat seafood products for the retail trade.

Since the buyout in 2014 the experience workforce have through continual improvement and modernisation expanded efficiencies, quality and processing capacity which has facilitated exciting new product development.

Erling Charleson, owner and founder of Mondi Group AB, is confident this merger will be an exciting new chapter for both companies.
