Minister Ring to officiate at school reopening and 4G pitch launch

The Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring, will participate in a series of events on Friday and Saturday in Mayo.

Minister Ring will today (Friday) officiate at the re-opening of Templemary National School in Killala.

Tomorrow (Saturday) he will participate in the official opening of Castlebar Mitchels’ new 4G pitch at 6 p.m. before attending the Mayo League presentation dinner in Westport..

Speaking ahead of the re-opening of Templemary National School, Minister Ring said: “Templemary National School was provided with a grant of €242,575 under the Department of Education’s Additional Accommodation Scheme.

“This funding has been used to construct a mainstream classroom, an assisted users WC, a resource room, and toilets. Roof and drainage works were also included in the project and a grant of €8,500 was also paid for furniture & IT equipment.

“This will enable the school to ensure that high quality classroom accommodation is available to cater for pupils enrolled each year.

“Templemary is like so many other communities around the country. With the hard work of communities and assistance from government, great things can be achieved. This school is testament to the commitment of local people to make rural Ireland a place where people want to live, work and prosper.”

Speaking ahead of the opening of Castlebar Mitchels’ 4G pitch, Minister Ring said: “This magnificent pitch is a credit to the members of the community in Castlebar who have provided so much support for this extremely ambitious project.

“The pitch will provide underage and adult players with year round floodlit training and playing facilities. Such facilities are essential for players, both adults and underage, to maintain high standards of skills and fitness.”

“The new 4G Astro Turf Pitch measures 60 by 86 meters and incorporates a five meter high Ball Wall. The Astro Turf area is enclosed with a new 3 meter high fence and enhanced floodlighting of the area.

Speaking ahead of the Mayo Football League Presentation Dinner at the Castlecourt Hotel in Westport, Minister Ring said: “As a keen soccer supporter and former player, I’m delighted to have be participating in this event which celebrates all that is positive about the game in Mayo.

“For anyone looking to get an idea of the quality of soccer being played in Mayo, I urge them to have a look at the Mayo Football League Facebook page which features fantastic goals and great moments that our teams are involved in both in local leagues and more widely.

“We have fine players, excellent teams and passionate supporters here in our county and I look forward to celebrating all of that on Saturday night in Westport.”
