Passing of former superintendent
FORMER Superintendent Michael Hussey, who has died, was recalled today as a man of the highest integrity and a great community man.
At the time of his retirement a number of years ago, Supt. Hussey was head of what is now the Claremorris Garda District.
Tribute was paid to him today (Friday) at a meeting of the Mayo Joint Policing Committee where Councillor Michael Loftus said he remembered when he was stationed as a garda in Crossmolina in 1973. He was always well respected as a garda and the town was sorry to lose him as he went on to better things in his career.
Councillor Loftus proposed a vote of sympathy to the late superintendent's wife, Maureen, and family.
Chief Supt. Pat Diskin said he had had the privilege of working with Supt. Hussey.
“He was a man of the highest integrity,” he recalled, “a great community man.”
Supt. Hussey was a very fair individual and if someone deserved to be given a chance he would be the first one to stand up, he added.
