Ballinrobe friends take to the sky for charity

Neighbours and best friends growing up in Ballinrobe, Michelle O'Haire and Tara Carney Hynes are about to take their comradeship to another level.

Michelle and Tara have decided to perform a parachute jump for charity on Saturday, May 11, rasing money for two very worthwhile causes – Corrib/Mask Search & Rescue and Pieta House.

Friends since playschool, the pair have helped each other through some tough times in the past few years. In fact, the idea of the skydive for their chosen charities came from tragic losses in both families.

Michelle's brother Patrick was just 21 years old when he died in a jet ski incident on Lough Mask in 2007, while Pieta House means a lot to Tara and the Carney family since her sibling Pat passed away in 2015.

Tara is being sponsored for the jump by McGrath's Group, Cong, and Michelle is being sponsored by her family.

The two friends, who grew up in Church View, Ballinrobe, are hosting an evening of fun tomorrow (Saturday) in Johno's Bar, Ballinrobe, starting at 9 p.m., prior to the jump itself on May 11. They have also created a fundraising page at www.idonate.ie/shellohare, and they can accept donations directly.
