Shauna Mullaney wins the Melissa Patterson Memorial Cup

The overall female Mayo Young Sports Stars of the Year Award 2018 winner is Olympics hopeful Shauna Mullaney.

She takes home the Melissa Patterson Memorial Cup after the adjucation panel, chaired by Martin Carney, selected this karate expert who will hopefully get to fulfil her dream of representing Ireland at the Tokyo Olympics next year.

Her dedication to her chosen sport since the age of just six means she's in a good place to fulfil that ambition, although the costs involved are high – especially as she's self-funded and also a full-time student at DCU.

Whatever the future holds, last year brought Shauna sufficient achievements to earn her the title of The Connaught Telegraph Female Sports Star of the Year. Congratulations Shauna!
