Lovehate writers first play coming to castlebar

Love/Hate writer Stuart Carolan’s first play, Defender of the Faith, is coming to Castlebar. Two performances will take place at the Linenhall Arts Centre on Monday and Tuesday next, October 20 and 21, at 8 p.m. in a new production by Galway’s Decadent Theatre.

Defender of the Faith is Carolan’s debut play, a thriller set on a farm in Armagh 1986. The play tells the story of a family, entrenched in paramilitarism and under the constant watch of British forces. When a visitor arrives with the job of rooting out a police informer, paranoia grips the isolated farm, becoming the setting for the electrifying exploration of a family tested by loyalty and love.

Defender Of The Faith is blackly comic and chillingly real, with an atmosphere taut with tension. Directed by Andrew Flynn, its boasts a top-notch cast of Peter Gowen, Diarmuid de Faoite, Anthony Brophy, Lalor Roddy and Michael Ford-Fitzgerald.

“A sinister thriller… crackerjack suspense.” - Mark Blankenship, Variety
