Irish tv launches new birmingham office

Westport-based Irish TV is continuing its expansion with the launch of a new office in Birmingham covering the UK’s Midlands region.

To celebrate, the station will broadcast a two-hour live entertainment programme from Birmingham’s Irish Centre on Thursday, March 26.

The show will launch Irish TV’s new Midlands base which will be headed by Bob Brolly, an award-winning radio personality and entertainer. Bob, a Derry native, has won many awards, including the Irish World Radio Presenter of the Year and the Irish Post Media Person of the Year. He has also received an MBE from Prince Charles for his outstanding contribution to broadcasting with the BBC and for his ongoing charity work.

The Birmingham Live show will be presented by Bob and can be viewed on Irish TV Sky channel 191, Freesat 400, eVision 191, free to air boxes and online at www.irishtv.com from 8 to 10 p.m. Viewers can expect a host of top local and international singers, dancers and musicians as well as some of the Midlands region’s most well-known personalities.

The Birmingham Irish Pipes and Drums will be appearing along with the city’s Lord Mayor Shafique Shah, whose grandmother was born in Dublin.

Other performers will include Carol Scanlon of the world famous Scanlon School of Irish Dancing, Irish dancer Ciara Sexton, TR Dallas, Boxtrad and Rana Gri.

Joining Bob on the couch will be Irish businessman Dennis Meagher, owner of Premier Metals, the company who made the Olympic torch, and Sister Sabina, MBE, an Irish nun who has done a lot of amazing work in Britain, among other guests.

Irish TV’s expansion into Birmingham and the Midlands is an exciting development for the station, which will celebrate its first anniversary on May 1.

During Birmingham Live there will be fantastic giveaways including flights to Ireland West Airport Knock with a two-night break for two in the McWilliam Park Hotel in Claremorris.
